CHARACTER
Name: Sasha Braus
Canon: Shingeki no Kyojin
Age: 16
Timeline: The end of chapter 36
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: In chapter 15 of Shingeki no Kyojin, one of the instructors gives short observations about each of the trainees in the 104th trainees squad. What he said about Sasha was that she is "lightning fast, with an uncanny intuition. But her eccentricity makes her unfit for group operations." Even though the instructor is commenting on her fighting techniques, this is actually a very good description of Sasha's personality.

We're going to cover the eccentric part first, since that is a key part of who Sasha is. Sasha is weird. Very weird. She has a habit of saying and doing things that nobody would even dream of trying. One of the first scenes we see of her involves her stealing a potato and eating it in front of the instructor, an move which completely baffles everyone around her. She even managed to leave the instructor in a stupor because of her boldness there, though she ends up paying for it later. She is also unusually relaxed compared to the other trainees from the 104th squad. In one scene, almost everyone else was tense about waiting for instructions and moving out to their next objective, but Sasha was just sitting around lazily wishing she didn't have to be bored anymore. Outside of combat, Sasha is just a strange person.

This doesn't mean that she's not a good person, though. Sasha is quite friendly, and is actually very polite to everyone. She speaks with an overly polite tone and uses formal words a lot, though part of the reason for that is because she's trying to cover up her accent, which shows that she's from a country region if she lets it out. Sasha also has quite the bubbly personality, and she usually has a smile on her face. Even when she's exhausted from running for hours straight, she'll still show how grateful she is to anyone who shows her kindness. This makes it easy to take advantage of her (like how Ymir got Sasha to do extra chores by carrying her home one night and telling Sasha that she owed her a favor), but Sasha doesn't seem to mind. If someone is willing to put up with her weirdness, then she will become a fast friend of theirs.

Going back to the instructor's description of her, Sasha is a very quick-witted. While she is of average intelligence (the guide book gave stats on most of the characters. Sasha got a 5 out of 10 in intelligence), she is able to think on her toes and come up with answers while others are stuck stuttering on their own words. For example, at one point a bunch of soldiers are knocked off a wall, and one of them is knocked unconscious. While most of the soldiers were focused on saving themselves and could only watch as their friend fell, Sasha quickly used part of her equipment to grab him and pull him to safety. Later on, when Sasha has to fight a titan without any of the usual gear the soldiers have, she not only came up with a solid plan, but she was able to adapt her strategies and get out of the situation unharmed when her initial plan backfired.

This also feeds in to the second half of her special skills: her uncanny intuition. Sasha has a good sense of what works and what doesn't work, and she adapts her own strategies to fit the situation. This is how she was able to survive her encounter with the titan by herself with none of her gear: she knew enough about fighting titans to make use of whatever objects she had around her, and she can go along with the flow of battle and stay alive. But this intuition isn't only limited to battle, Sasha has proven to be very good at hunting and tracking too. Which makes sense, she comes from a small village that survived on hunting in the forest. But hunting for survival has given her a survival instinct, and she seems to notice things before people. For example, one time she put her head down against a table, and she could hear heavy footsteps approaching. She had enough experience hearing footsteps to recognize that the footsteps she could hear were from something big, which in her world meant titans, which gave everyone enough of a warning to get out of the area before the titans appeared.

While Sasha is a decent fighter, she does have her weaknesses. In her case, a lot of her problems are mental ones. Even though she was ninth out of her entire graduating class, Sasha still froze up during one of the first times she faced with a real live titan. She would have been titan chow if Mikasa and Annie hadn't saved her. That fear of titans has stuck with her throughout the story, even into later chapters where she is seen taking down titans without hesitating. Even as she fights, she still carries that fear with her. The difference between the beginning and more recent chapters is that Sasha has started to use that fear as a motivator. Whereas she used to be paralyzed by her fear, in more recent chapters she has thought things like "If I miss, then I will die" as she deals a killing blow. The fear is still there, it's just used as a powerful tool.

Being from the country, Sasha is a bit insecure about herself. She doesn't want to appear to be a 'country hick' or anything, so she does her best to cover up her country mannerisms. She hides any of her interests which may seem country-like, and she covers up her accent by speaking very formally and acting more like a proper lady should. That said, her accent has been shown to slip through during stressful situations. When she's focused on fighting titans and staying alive, she cares a lot less about how she sounds to other people. Also, talking to others (Christa and Ymir in particular)has helped her with trying to accept who she is.

Last, but not least, Sasha has a huge appetite. Seriously, this girl is motivated by food. Many of the visual jokes involving Sasha also involve food in some way. Heaven help you if you get between her and her meal, because she will knock you right out of the way. It's a very noteworthy trait of hers, so much so that a meme was formed around it. Of course, there is a serious reason for all of this: after wall Maria fell, everyone moved inward and they couldn't grow food fast enough to feed everyone. More people encroached on the forest that Sasha's village hunted in, and for a while there was a very real threat of everyone starving to death. She's even gone so far as to steal food to make sure she has enough to eat. This is one of the big motivators behind Sasha's love of food: food is life. But it's played for laughs mostly, since the focus of the series is on fighting titans, not on food shortages.

Abilities: Sasha is a member of the Scouting Legion. She was ranked ninth out of the 104th trainees squad, and thus is one of the more talented members of that particular group. She can use the 3D movement gear, which allows the soldiers to move on three planes of movement (up/down, in addition to left/right and forward/backward), and she can use a variety of weapons as well. In canon she has been shown fighting with the special swords that are required for killing titans, an axe, a bow and arrow, and her bare hands.

In addition to this, Sasha has been shown to be good at hunting and tracking. She also has a high endurance and good battle intuition.

As mentioned above, everyone's stats were published in a guide book. These are Sasha's stats:
Intelligence: 5/10
Social Skill: 6/10
Weight: 2/10
Height: 5/10
Vitality: 3/10
Battle skill: 6/10

As a final note, Sasha's change in speech is a complicated thing that involves the different levels of formality you can use when speaking to people in Japanese. It doesn't translate very well into English, so I'm going to go with what the manga translations use to show the difference between her 'formal' speech and her 'casual' speech: the 'formal' speech will be much more annunciated with fewer contractions (and a lot more 'refined' vocabulary mixed in), whereas her 'casual' speech will be full of contractions and use simpler words. I'll also signify which is being used in narrative, if it is pertinent to the situation.

First Person: [When the video starts, it's obvious that the girl holding the communicator has never used anything like it before. She's holding it close to her face, like she is trying to examine it closely, so most of the video is taken up by her face. Then abruptly it turns off. A few minutes later it turns on again, and this time she's holding it further away, though she's clearly testing it out by first making a face and then by saying a few words, which has a bit of a country accent to it.]

'lo? This hunk o' junk workin'?

[It turns off again, and then a few minutes later it turns on one final time. Sasha has finally figured out that yes, this thing does record her, and yes, there are other people which she can see on this thing too. She regrets that she didn't figure that out before making herself look silly all over the network, but there's not much she can do about that now.

When she speaks again, the twang from before is gone from her voice, and she is speaking with a very clear tone and formal voice.
]

Hello, I am Sasha Braus, from the Scouting Legion. I have just arrived to the area, and I need to reconnect with the Scouting Legion as soon as possible.

[Even though this is a strange city Sasha has never heard of before, she still has a mission to complete. She needs to meet up with the rest of the Scouting Legion so they can continue the evacuation to behind Wall Sina.]

Third Person: Sasha was a bit reluctant to let her guard down at first. Barely hours ago she had been involved in a fight for her life, and now she was in a place where titans didn't even exist? Sure, it sounded like a nice dream, but Sasha had trouble believing it. As much as she would have liked to think that she was safe and sound, experience had taught her not to trust this kind of peace and quiet.

But even if she was on guard, that didn't mean she couldn't have some fun. Sasha had decided to explore this city and see what it had to offer, and so far she hadn't been disappointed in what she had seen. Even though there wasn't anything like the 3D Movement Gear here, it was still pretty technologically advanced. Those communicators were pretty amazing, and Sasha couldn't even begin to describe some of the other things she had seen. She could think of a couple people she knew who would die of happiness at the sight of all of this, though.

Suddenly Sasha's nose caught a whiff of an all-too-familiar smell. She took off running, not even caring about how she must have looked to anyone watching. Nothing else was even registering in Sasha's mind right now, not with the prize in sight. One street down was a shop of some sort, and within seconds she was right in front of it, pressing her face against the glass. There was food in there, and Sasha was drooling just from the smell of it. Hours of running and fighting titans had left Sasha starving, and she felt like she could eat a whole army's worth of rations if only she could afford it.

Of course, as Sasha would soon find out, all the food was free in this place, and she could eat as much as she wanted. Upon hearing that, Sasha just sank to the floor, unable to hold herself up anymore. All she could do was look up at the sky as her eyes started to tear up.

"Heaven," she said finally, "I've died 'n gone ta heaven!"
